Arkansas is the largest producer of cotton and rice in America, as well as growing our fair share of soy beans. Agriculture is an extremely important part of our states economy, bringing in around $16,000,000,000 annually. The recent trade tariffs have cost too many Arkansan farmers and ranchers their livelihoods. History is the best teacher and historically tariffs burden falls on American producers and consumers. Dan will fight to get rid of these damaging tariffs in order to protect Arkansans. Dan understands the need to lift the voices of farmers and ranchers and he will make your voices heard!
Giant corporations have been hogging subsidies for too long. As small farmers and ranchers chapter 12 bankruptcy rates continue to rise, corporations profiting billions take in billions in subsidies. 80% of subsidies go to only 10% of the agricultural businesses. Giant corporations get huge tax cuts and write-offs when the ones that really need this help are are small farms and ranches. Dan will fight to help these small businesses by working to reallocate subsidies from the giant that don't even need them, to the working class families that do.
Farming co-ops are a nearly unknown gem in many communities. When small family farms have excess food from their harvest a farming co-op can purchase that food using federal funds and redistribute that food to those in need. This helps prevent wasted food as well as helping communities fee those in need.
Dan has had ranchers bring to his attention that the price of their beef is lower than it should be because they have to compete with imported beef being sold as USDA beef. Cattle are being brought across the border alive, slaughtered in the US and sold as USDA beef. Dan will do his best to investigate this issue and help to protect our ranchers from out of state investors that are price cutting with inferior products.
